Timesheet approvals
The org-wide approvals switch, auto-approve, and per-project approval.
At Settings → Timesheet approvals. Available on every plan; only the Owner can open it. The emails that go with approvals are on Emails.
The master switch
Enable timesheet approvals for this organisation turns the feature on or off org-wide. It's off by default. Turning it on doesn't by itself put any project's time under review — each project separately chooses whether it requires approval at all, and who approves it (see Per-project approval mode below). Think of this org switch as the prerequisite, not the whole configuration.
Auto-approve
Automatically approve time still waiting on a client decision — on by default, set to 3 days. This only applies to time a client would decide on through the client portal (a client-only project, or the client-facing half of a project); time waiting on internal (Owner/Admin) review never auto-approves, no matter how long it sits. The day count is measured from when the entry started waiting on the client.
Per-project approval mode
Each project has its own Timesheet approval panel on its settings page (only usable once the org switch above is on):
- Require approval before invoicing — a per-project switch.
- Who approves? — Owner, Admin, or Client. Choosing Client requires selecting at least one contact on that client to notify.
If a project is set to require client approval, and a team member (not an Owner or Admin) submits the time, it goes through internal review first, then to the client. If an Owner or Admin submits it themselves, it goes straight to the client — there's no need to have someone approve their own submission first.
Notifications
The six approval emails — time submitted, approved, rejected, still awaiting review, unsubmitted time, and withdrawn — are on Settings → Emails, on the Timesheets tab: their switches, their wording, and when they're sent. See Emails. They're only sent while the switch above is on.
