Creating a project and billing methods

Budget model, billing method, and task categories.

Every project belongs to a client and has its own settings page (a real, shareable page — refreshing or using back/forward works as expected).

Billing method

Set once per project, and used consistently everywhere time from that project is billed:

  • Hourly — billed at the project's hourly rate.
  • Flat / Fixed fee — billed at the project's fixed fee regardless of hours logged, not re-derived from an hourly rate.
  • Non-billing — never invoiced. Time logged here can't accidentally pick up a made-up rate; it's zero, always.

Budget

Projects can track a budget in hours or in fees. If you use the kanban board, work-item allocations roll up against this budget and warn you if they add up to more than what's available — see Allocation and budget.

Task categories

Each project has its own set of billing task categories (e.g. Design, Development, Meeting) — this is how time gets grouped on an invoice, and it's a separate concept from kanban work items (a work item is tagged to one task category, but many work items can share a category).

Team

Set who's on the project's team from here — see Project teams for what that controls.
